Northland is the first region of New Zealand. In 1840, we were the first to create a historic partnership between our two peoples, Maori and Pakeha. But we didn't stop there. Today we continue to be first - in our business opportunities, our balanced lifestyles and our strong sense of community.
We have a lot of land, a lot of coast and a lot of diverse people with their own unique personalities, beliefs and reputations. We are proud of our patch and the jug is always on for when visitors call. These are the things that make Northland, Northland.
We've tended to have some real highs and some real lows, there's a bit of the old tall poppy syndrome growing here and in the past we haven't always pulled together.
Well, now there's something in the air that suggests this is changing. It feels like a growing up, a desire, a building of momentum to work together in an enterprising way to make the most of the incredible opportunities that we all have here.
There is a vibrant, spirited regeneration taking place that recognises that Northland is a powerful place and space with strong foundations and an independent spirit, an environment that is open to new ideas and encourages new growth.
